As we move further into the 2024/25 school year, it is important to remember to get ahead on your volunteer hours now.
For those who don’t know, it is within the Palm Beach Central graduation requirements to serve at least 20 community service hours. Furthermore, if you have goals set on receiving an AICE diploma, the minimum community service hours required is 100 hours.
Getting ahead on your volunteer hours is ideal so that you can make a steady schedule, ensuring you meet your community service goals. There is a wide selection of volunteer opportunities that are recommended to you by your fellow Broncos.
Palm Beach Central senior Alexa Jacintl is currently finishing her community service goals of 120 hours. To get her first 40 hours, she volunteered at her old elementary school through their summer camp program.
This is a popular route among students, and there are many elementary and middle schools to choose from, even though many students have the preference of helping out at their own old school.
For her next 60 hours, she is a student aide here at Palm Beach Central in the Media Center. This opportunity is available to all upperclassmen, and can be signed for on your course selections for the next school year. Student aide gives you up to 100 hours alone per school year. She advises underclassmen to reach out to as many organizations as possible to find out if they take highschool volunteers.
Nathea Masse is another Bronco senior who shared some of her favorite ways to get her hours. Her main volunteer activities are working or participating in Dance Marathons. Just showing up to this event gets you 20 hours.
She is also very involved at her Church, Christ Fellowship, by working youth camps receiving 8 hours a day. Nathea is also a member of many clubs here on campus such as Students Speak Up for Kids, Women of Tomorrow, First Priority, and many of the various Honor Societies on campus.
Senior Addison Gammons volunteers at various pet rescues such as Peggy Adams, Big Dog Ranch, and Justin Bartlett. These rescues are good ways to get hours while still having fun and learning about animal-care. Getting volunteer hours can feel like a chore, but by working with puppies, you must likely won’t feel that way.
Additionally, if you are an avid reader, or have a way with children, another good place to volunteer is the Palm Beach County library. At the library, you receive scheduled shifts for whatever time works best for you, and you work in the children’s department.
In general, there is no reason to wait until the last second to get your volunteer hours. There is a wide variety of volunteer opportunities that can suit your personal interests and passions.
