Pop sensation Taylor Swift has rocked the world by being one of the biggest award-winning singers/songwriters of this decade. Taylor Swift is an influential celebrity who has used her platform to spread positivity and kindness, but also to inform anyone who listens about important events that are happening around the world.

Two of Taylor Swift’s biggest accomplishments are winning Artist of the Decade at the AMAs and being Billboard’s Woman of the Decade. Swift also holds the record for winning the most American Music Awards than any other artist this decade with 30 wins, so the AMAs honored her as the Artist of the decade in October 2019. Taylor Swift accomplished the goal of not just being a popular, well-known singer but also being involved in charity work and countless causes, which are some of the reasons why Billboard awarded her as the First Woman of the Decade.

“I want to first thank Billboard from the bottom of my heart for this award, giving me this honor of naming me your woman of the decade,” said Taylor Swift during her award speech. “What does it mean to be the woman of the decade? Well, it means I’ve seen and experienced a lot, when this decade began I was 20 years old.”

In Taylor Swift’s 16-minute long acceptance speech, she goes on to explain what it is like to be a woman in the music industry and how automatically as a female people will always have slight reservations about you. Striving to be herself and not let criticism change or stop her from creating music, Taylor Swift has made it her objective to speak and be the ‘loud person’ in the room on important issues that happen with women in music. 

“In the last 10 years I have watched as women in this industry are criticized and measured up to each other, and picked at for their bodies, their romantic lives, their fashion,” continued Swift. “The difference between those who continue to create in that climate usually comes down to this, who lets that scrutiny break them and who just keeps making art.”

Taylor Swift is an inspirational icon who has used her platform to make a change and spread the due amount of positivity and kindness for women in music. Swift also uses her platform to increase the awareness of important issues that are occurring worldwide.

Performing at benefit concerts like the American Cancer Society’s annual We Can Survive, donating thousands of dollars to charities such as Red Cross, supporting causes like adoption and the foster care system, and so many more involvements, Taylor Swift continues to embody what she preaches. ‘The only way forward is forward motion’ with all of her growing steps to being the person she is today, Taylor Swift has proven to be the Artist and Woman of this decade through her countless influential actions.
