As we head into the new year, it is crucial to highlight the clubs and organizations here at Palm Beach Central.
The Students Speak Up for Kids Chapter at Palm Beach Central was founded in fall of 2021 by then freshman, Nathea Masse. Nathea had the pleasure of researching and working with the Students Speak Up organization during her middle school years and was invited to start a chapter once she got to high school.
Students Speak Up for Kids is a nonprofit organization that works with children in the foster care system. Their goal is to instill positive youth involvement in the community by stimulating advocacy for foster kids. The organization works with schools and universities across the Palm Beaches and Martin County. Each chapter works on projects to benefit the foster community. From goodie bags to donation drives, the Chapters do it all.
The students involved in the Students Speak Up Chapters have made a significant impact on youth in the foster care system. The organization has completed 350 community projects and has reached over 10,000 individuals in doing so.
The Chapters have also benefited the students involved. Approximately 900 Chapter members have logged nearly 7,000 hours through the program. The program has chapters established in 14 schools and colleges that have raised awareness for the flawed foster care system and how to make a difference in the lives of foster youth.
At Central specifically, the chapter has been active for 4 years. They meet every other Thursday to work on chapter projects and plan for organization events. At the club’s most recent meeting, members assembled Thanksgiving goodie bags and notes for local foster families.
On Saturday, December 14, Central club members participated in the annual Winterfest, an event put on for the kids to feel some holiday cheer. They participate in crafts and activities organized by local school chapters. This year, they were able to enjoy time at a trampoline park.
Club members are awarded community service hours for their involvement in the club and their donation of time, money, and/or goods. It is an incredibly beneficial club for Palm Beach Central Broncos.
Join to impact the lives of local foster families and get some community service hours!
