As a new school year starts at Palm Beach Central, Broncos must know about new changes that have been implemented over summer.
As far as changes with the school schedule, the most obvious and important change has been the shift of the bell schedule. Unfortunately, school now starts five minutes earlier than last year at 7:30 AM, while last year school started at 7:35 AM. With this, the warning bell for Period One is at 7:25 A.M.
Also, building numbers for both lunches changed from last year too. Students in buildings 2, 4, 5, 9, and portables 10-17 now have First Lunch, while buildings 6, 7, 8, the Gym, and portables 1-9 now have Second Lunch.
These changes happened because buildings 6 and 7 tend to have more academic classes than electives. Because of this, it was decided that it would be better for students to go straight from class to their fifth hour before going to lunch to keep the academic flow.
Additionally, Bronco Nation has acquired new staff. Former AP Ms. Higley left this year to be a principal at Meadow Park Elementary School. In her place, Dr. Sutherland is now the new AP for Sophomore class.
Dr. Sutherland is an alumni of PBCHS and has been in education for 11 years. Formerly, he was a specialist at the school district in the data and school improvement department. He is excited to be a leadership figure at PBC.
Ms Tomayo, our school’s old AICE coordinator, has left PBC to work at Spanish River. Ms Lezark, an AICE General Paper teacher and credited Cambridge trainer, is now the new AICE coordinator. Her long term goal is to grow the AICE program by adding new courses that can benefit our schools choice programs, generating more student involvement.
As it is fall sports season, there are some changes. Mr. Travis Abel, our athletic director and Bronco coach, wants to see in broncos. In future seasons, it is important for students, especially underclassmen to know that all athletic packets through Akitivate are due before trying out. Aktivate is a sports management program for schools that holds all payments and information of the athlete. This is important because you cannot participate on a bronco sports team without completion through Akitivate.
