Two the finish line — The Valedictorian and Salutatorian for the class of 2023
May 5, 2023
With the senior class of 2023 beginning their journey out of high school, there are two students that have risen above the rest, Ryan Fingeret and Amanda Schnina. As they prepare for their big day on May 17, they graciously took the time to answer a few questions for us.
Valedictorian: Ryan Fingeret
What was your favorite high school memory?
The first memory that comes to mind is during my junior year prom. I was pushed by my group of friends into an opening in the middle of a dance circle. The rush of adrenaline was instant for me and I clearly remember jumping to the beat of the music and everyone crowding around to jump with me. My face lit up as I danced the night away with my friends and classmates; it was a feeling I will never forget.
How did you feel when you found out you were the Valedictorian?
It was a surreal experience that I still can not fully comprehend. I had always put my efforts into schoolwork and my grades, but it did not seem believable to be in this position. This feeling was combined with my relief and excitement of what I had just accomplished. I could not wait to tell my family that the second valedictorian has arrived (my brother Jake Fingeret was the valedictorian of the class of 2020). Then I immediately put my mind to the speech I would have to give to my peers in the coming months.
What will you miss most about high school?
I have made many long lasting friendships and bonds. I will miss the daily interactions and amazing times that I have with my friends everyday. High school will always have a place in my heart because of that.
Where are you going to college? What is your major going to be?
The University of Florida. I am looking to be a finance major because I have always found myself gravitating towards the world of money and markets.
What career do you see yourself in and why?
The world of finance has so many career opportunities, I am uncertain specifically what path of finance I will take. I look forward to seeing what I can learn about the finance network throughout college to help me decide.
Salutatorian: Amanda Schnina
What was your favorite high school memory?
My favorite memory in high school was going to my first football game with all of my friends.
How did you feel when you found out you were the Valedictorian/Salutatorian?
I was nervous when I found out I was Salutatorian because I knew I would have to give a speech at graduation, but I was excited because my hard work paid off.
What will you miss most about high school?
I am going to miss the familiarity of high school the most.
Where are you going to college? What is your major going to be?
I am going to the University of Florida in the fall. I am going to major in finance because I have always been good with math and managing money.
What career do you see yourself in and why?
I see myself as a financial advisor, so I can help people manage their money and make sure they are setting themselves up for success.
