On Tuesday, February 8, poet, author, songwriter, and motivational speaker Dwight Seon Stewart held a poetry slam session in the media center. "It is of critical importance and relevance to recognize, analyze, report, remind and honor all achievements of the black community because the black community belongs to the human family," said Stewart. "In order to move forward and counteract lies and the miseducation of the world's knowledge of the black community, we have a responsibility to report the true facts and achievements of the peoples of the African Diaspora."

Sophomore Toni Jones decided to participate in BSU's celebration of Black Heritage month in order "to speak on all the achievements of African-Americans."

"It was an honor for the Dance Team to be apart of the Black History Month Spirit Week," said captain and senior Marissa Ortiz. "We performed to a song called 'Rooted' by Cierra which represents a voice for young black women."
